Early Pregnancy Signs and Symptom
Sometimes very early on in pregnancy it can be difficult to distinguish between true pregnancy symptoms and regular premenstrual syndrome (PMS) because they often mimic each other. Symptoms that can be associated with either early pregnancy or PMS include:
- Fatigue
- Breast tenderness
- Digestive changes (heartburn, constipation, etc.)
- Light abdominal cramping
- Feeling bloated
- Moodiness
The reason for the similarity in symptoms is that both pregnancy and PMS are associated with high progesterone levels.
The most common pregnancy symptom is the absence of a regular period. Pregnancy symptoms that often occur after a missed period and are unique from PMS symptoms include:
- Absence of menstruation or no period
- Nausea
- Frequent urination
- Food cravings
- Sensitivity to smells
- Darkening of the areolas or freckles
