After Abortion Help

The circumstances surrounding someone making an abortion decision are often very stressful. An individual’s response to this situation may vary as each person and circumstances are unique. Many women and men report feeling relief immediately after making the decision to have an abortion. Over time, many may experience negative emotional effects after the abortion.

Common reactions after a stressful event, such as an abortion, include:

• Increased anxiety
• Feelings of guilt, loss, or grief
• Tearfulness
• Relationship and/or intimacy difficulties
• Substance abuse
• Difficulties coping with reminders
  • For example: the anniversary of the abortion, due date, or being around other children

This is in no way a comprehensive list of Post Abortion Stress symptoms, and we recognize that not
every woman who has an abortion will experience them. However, for those that do, Choices is here to
help.

If you are hurting from a past abortion, Choices offers Post-Abortion Support through groups and one-on-one mentoring. We use Surrendering the Secret, an amazing program aimed at assisting women through the aftermath of an abortion. This is a program that is designed to have others that care walk alongside you through an 8-week Bible study to help women that are hurting. This program is completely confidential, and is often led by those who have had previous abortions, have experienced healing themselves, and would love to help you through this process.
